In case you missed it! Land Use Ordinance (LUO) Task Force Report to the DPP
Last week we sent a flash where you could view the report produced by the AIA Honolulu LUO Task Force documenting their efforts and summarizing their recommendations to the City and to the consultant team responsible for guiding this process forward. Email comments or questions to Tom Rudary, AIA or Deirdre Stearns, AIA.
One piece of the report still in need of attention is the section discussing LUO Article 9, Special District Regulations. The Task Force plans to hold a follow-up meeting (tentatively scheduled for mid- to late-July), but needs insight from AIA members who have done work in one or more of Honolulu’s designated special districts and have recommended changes to Article 9 based on their experience.

AIA Conference Update
2018 AIA Conference on Architecture in New York City
By Louis Fung, AIA, President, AIA Hawaii State Council
Amazing, exhilarating and overwhelming are the most common remarks that I gathered from people at the AIA Convention in New York City, June 20 - 23. The shear amount of people attending, workshops, tours, events and sight-seeing opportunities is simply unprecedented. Hawaii marked an impressive presence with more than 60 members at the Big Apple. This year’s events were organized so that participants would have opportunities to explore various key places in the city, such as the Radio City Music Hall, the New School, etc. View images on Facebook.
At the Northwest and Pacific Region business meeting, Geoffrey Lewis, President of AIA Honolulu, made an excellent presentation for the November Region Symposium in Honolulu. Although the AIA Annual Business Meeting went quite a bit over time, many great resolutions were passed as benefits for our nearly 100,000 members.
Most who frequently attend the AIA convention enjoy moments to connect with old friends, classmates and AIA leaders, aside from the vast selection of workshops and tours. As people often say, "we come to the meetings and stay for the people."
As I conclude this brief report of the A’18 Convention, I also conclude my term as President of AIA Hawaii. It’s been a great honor to have served AIA and to have met and worked with so many great people. See you all again in Vegas!
MAHALO Louis Fung, AIA from AIA Honolulu for your incredible work on the AIA Hawaii State Council!
