NEW FOR 2019! TWO (2) AWARDS ADDED

  • The Distinctive Detailed Design Award (Optional):
Built projects have the option to compete in this award category created to honor individual building components and design features that until now may not have been recognized for overall achievement.  Whether it be a prominent façade, a grand staircase, or a custom piece of furniture, this award celebrates the craftmanship, attention to detail, and spirit of innovation expressed by architectural elements big and small. The eligibility is the same as for Built Projects, just choose “Distinctive Detail” under the Project Category list when starting your online submission.
  • Hawai‘i Energy Award for Excellence in Energy-Efficient Design (Optional):
All Unbuilt and Built projects in the Institutional or Commercial/Industrial project categories now have the option to compete for this award which recognizes design that embodies Hawai‘i Energy’s mission to assist Hawai‘i’s consumers in maximizing energy efficiency as a critical step to getting to our state’s clean energy goals, saving ratepayers on their utility costs and protecting our islands’ environment. View PDF for more information.

2019 Design Awards Jury: In 2019, the AIA Honolulu Design Awards jury will consist of five individuals, two of whom will be members of an AIA chapter outside of Hawaii.  Three jurors will be members of AIA Honolulu to ensure that the uniqueness of Hawaii Architecture is recognized and appreciated.

TOMORROW! May 8: AIA-GCA 2019 Event #2 "The Perfect P3 Project" (1 LU)

Register Online! Wednesday, May 8, 11:30am-1pm at the AIA Center for Architecture

Our latest AIA/GCA seminar will continue our P3 discussions by exploring current P3 projects in Hawaii and the local opportunities and challenges with Lance Wilhelm.  Following that we will have Charles Long give a presentation on the tools necessary to successful Public Private Partnerships.

Transit oriented development, downtown revitalization, conversion of obsolete retail and industrial sites, brownfield cleanup, and mixed-use development are all more economically and physically complex than the development of the past and, in most markets, require some type of public private partnership to succeed.  What can the AIA and GCA communities do to enhance the potential for successful Public Private Partnerships?

Recently, ULI published a manual on Public Partnerships: From Principals to Practice, written by members of ULI’s two public private partnership product councils.  Attendees at the AIA meeting on May 8 will receive a download code to obtain a copy of this publication for free.

Cost: $10 AIA Members & GCA Members (GCA members must apply the promo code “GCA” at registration for member fee),  $20 for non-members.
