Workshop will improve the skills and knowledge base of design, rehabilitation, and forensics professionals (consultants, architects, and engineers), developers, contractors, and building system manufacturers. University and college level students welcome. The sessions will focus on the advancement of modern building enclosures by addressing aspects of manufacturing of products/systems, specification, installation, and building maintenance including investigation and repair.  The program comprises of ten, 75-minute presentations, an exhibitor zone, and network reception.

AIA Committee Meetings

AIA Honolulu committee meetings are open to all active AIA Honolulu members.


Jan 8: 2018 IEBC Review, 11:30am-1pm

AIA Honolulu members are going through and giving input on draft amendments to the 2012 International Existing Building Code (IEBC), which are proposed to be incorporated into the Revised Ordinances of Honolulu (ROH).


Jan 9: Housing Committee Meeting, 12pm-1pm

The AIA Honolulu Housing Committee was created to promote the development of safe, attractive, accessible, and affordable housing. It will provide leadership, advocacy, and education to the profession and the public in matters related to housing design.


Jan 13: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Architecture, 12pm-1pm

This committee will support equity, diversity, and inclusion within the design community and create a stronger profession by providing opportunities for career progression, leadership development, elevating work culture, and inclusive talent recruitment.

AIA Honolulu Event Update

Members Brighten the Holidays for the Youth at Hale Kipa

This year AIA Honolulu members gathered to give gifts, time and cheer to the youth at Hale Kipa here on Oahu. Hale Kipa is a local private non-profit organization focusing on the youth who are at risk, e.g. homeless or living with an abusive family. View images on Facebook.

The organization supports teens by providing a wide range of programs which includes emergency shelter, independent living skills, and a transitional family program. Members donated tons of gifts and came to the Center for Architecture to beautifully wrap all the gifts and enjoy lunch.

The lunch was graciously sponsored by Pragmatic Professional Engineers.

AIA Big Island Members Assists Kealakehe STEM Academy Students

Take a look at this great article titled "Learning at Kealakehe High School means constructing classroom outdoors" that was featured in West Hawaii Today on Tuesday, Dec. 17. In it they featured one of the spaces designed and build by the Kealakehe STEM Academy students.  Our very own Hawaii Island AIA members have been volunteering to do design reviews and mentor with these student groups.

AIA National Announces 2020 Award Winners

AIA National began announcing its 2020 award winners this week. 

Architecture Research Office (ARO) was recognized with the AIA Architecture Firm Award. AIA honored Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, with the Gold Medal and 2019 AIA Florida Convention Keynote, Gabrielle Bullock, FAIA received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award. View the 2020 AIA National award recipients.
