AIA Honolulu & Industry News
Honolulu Named in Final Round the 100 Resilient Cities Initiative
We are excited to share that Honolulu has just been named in the final round of the 100 Resilient Cities initiative (100RC). What is the 100RC? 100 Resilient Cities is pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) helps cities around the world become more resilient to social, economic, and physical challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century. 100RC provides this assistance through: funding for a Chief Resilience Officer in each of our cities who will lead the resilience efforts; resources for drafting a Resilience Strategy; access to private sector, public sector, academic, and NGO resilience tools; and membership in a global network of peer cities to share best practices and challenges.
What does this mean for you? Being in a named 100RC means that our city has recognized the importance of making our city more resilient towards its identified shocks (ie. acute events such as natural disasters) and stresses (ie. daily pressures or barriers that prevent communities and individuals from thriving). The city will work its way through the 100RC process, beginning with the Agenda setting workshop which will ultimately inform the city’s resilience strategy. The city will then hire a Chief Resilience Officer to lead the strategy development process. During strategy development the city may choose to engage 100RC platform partners to help implement the strategy.
AIA National! The AIA is a 100RC platform partner, enabling AIA components and named cities to work together if both parties so choose. AIA Honolulu will be in contact with AIA National about this and hopefully have more to share in the near future.
