Feb 8: Attend CICH's Shinnen Enkai

RSVP Online! AIA Honolulu members are invited to celebrate the New Year and the upcoming Legislative Session with other construction industry leaders and public officials at the Construction Industry Council of Hawaii’s (CICH) Traditional Shinnen Enkai or New Year’s Celebration.

Artizen by MW in the Hawai’i State Art Museum

This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about related industry issues and meet with your counterparts in the industry and the legislators who will be driving the important issues during the coming session.

Feb 9: Young Architects Forum (YAF) Pau Hana: What is YAF?

AIA (YAF Chair and Vice-Chair) and see what we have planned for 2017.  This event is open to all young professionals in the construction industry. The local committee of YAF is a part of AIA Honolulu and meets the 2nd Thursday of each month.  YAF Honolulu welcomes professionals that are: nearly licensed, newly licensed, and out to ten years of licensure.

Feb 13: Attend a SHPD Educational Workshop (3 HSW)

Register Online! Monday, Feb. 13, 9am-12pm at the Center For Architecture, AIA Honolulu presents an educational workshop by the State Historic Preservation Division (SHPD). View SHPD Flyer.

Program Outline: What is SHPD and how is SHPD organized, Types or reviews and Triggers, Submitting to SHPD and SHPD Programs: Inventory of Historic Properties and Register of Historic Places.

Speakers: Dr. Alan Downer, Administrator, SHPD, Deputy Historic Preservation Officer; Hinano Rodrigues, History and Culture Branch Chief, SHPD; Kaiwi Nui Yoon, Architectural Branch Chief, SHPD; Dr. Susan Lebo, Archaeology Branch Chief, SHP.

Feb 21: Save the Date for Next GMM: “Integrated Design Technology & Collaboration”

Topic: “Integrated Design Technology & Collaboration

Program Overview: Gain the advantage by learning about some of the latest tools in design collaboration that integrate the process between design and construction.  You will learn more about: Design Coordination - Revit Collaborator/BIM 360 Glue; Preconstruction/Estimating - Historical Cost Data; Design Quality - BIM 360 Field and Existing Conditions and Documentation - 3D Laser Scanning.

Guest Speaker: Jon Burke, Virtual Design & Construction/BIM Manager at Swinerton Builders, brings to light the latest tools in Design Coordination and Quality using Revit Collaborator & BIM 360, Preconstruction/Estimating with Historical Cost Data, Virtual Reality, and 3D laser scanning for Existing Conditions.

Partnering with the Hawaii Dep. of Land & Natural Resources

Feb 15 & 16: FEMA Substantial Improvement/Substantial Damage Workshop (4 HSW)

Workshop is worth 4 AIA/CES (HSW). AIA Honolulu is the registered provider.

This 1-day FEMA-led training will provide an overview of the critical components if renovating or rehabilitating certain existing structures located in high hazard flood zones.

AXP, ARE, & Licensure Questions?  From 5:00pm-5:40pm our ARE Prep Session chairs Jason DeMarco, AIA and Todd Hassler, AIA will be available for one-on-one mentoring regarding AXP, ARE, and licensure.

March Topic:  We will be covered ARE 5.0 Practice Management and the corresponding ARE 4.0 exams that we’re covering are Construction Documents & Services and Programming, Planning, & Practice.  We will also review the ARE 4.0 PPP vignette.

The faculty of the School of Architecture at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa cordially invites you to the opening of a special exhibition presenting recent projects by two of Honolulu’s most distinguished design practices.
