Jan 12: SAVE THE DATE! Land Use Ordinance (LUO) Task Force Jan. 12, 12pm
Join the AIA LUO Task Force as we review our city’s land use ordinance (LUO). We invite all interested members to engage in the unique opportunity to take a look at Honolulu’s current zoning code and give feedback to the city for their upcoming revisions to the LUO. This is a chance for us as design professionals and AIA members to have an impact on the very codes that regulate our work and define the future fabric of our city. We will be meeting regularly either weekly or twice a month at the AIA Center for Architecture.View Meeting Flyer.
Join us for our first meeting Friday, January 12, 12:00pm, where we will kick off by reviewing the residential portion of the zoning code. There will be multiple meetings on each code section, so if you cannot make it to the first meeting, you will have other opportunities to contribute. We are also looking for volunteers to join our leadership team. As a member of the leadership team, you will be taking on an administrative role and not expected to be an expert on zoning or land use. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the AIA and impact our design community. Please look out for more information in our e-newsletter!

WASHINGTON, D.C., - December 18, 2017 - The American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced it was encouraged by changes made to the tax reform legislation contained in the House-Senate Conference Agreement announced last week late Friday night.
The conference agreement that will now go to the House and Senate for a vote allows for a 20 percent deduction for businesses organized as “pass-through” entities like S-corps, sole proprietorships and Limited Liability Partnerships, subject to income limitations. The Senate bill would have greatly restricted this deduction for “service” businesses like doctors, lawyers, architects and financial services firms. The final conference package now contains specific language stating that architecture and engineering firms are not subject to the limiting provision that applies to other service businesses.
