Sep 20: AIA/GCA Webex Meeting: P3 “Public Private Partnerships”
and their implications on Design and Construction in Hawaii

Register Online! Thursday, Sep. 20, 11:30am-1pm, AIA Center for Architecture

A P3, or public-private partnership, is a procurement model that uses an integrated approach to deliver infrastructure, incorporating design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance functions into the contract.  P3s have been successful around the nation for several years and many government agencies and developers are considering it for their project.  Come hear Rodney Moss of AIAI give a webex about P3 projects being explored in Hawaii and see how many current projects already have many of the aspects of P3.  Learn what has been proposed in the last Legislative session and what’s to come in the upcoming legislative session.

Rodney Moss is Sr. Vice President of the Hunt Development Group. He has served AIAI for three years as the chair of the Law & Legislative committee and was instrumental in drafting the original P3 legislation in Texas and Florida. Rodney has 25 years experience in construction risk management and construction-related claims.  Rodney was a partner in the Procurement and Construction Practice Group of the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult & Cummings in Birmingham, Alabama before joining Balfour Beatty. His experience included complex transactions and claims, including coverage disputes, on behalf of large general contractors.

Cost: $10 AIA Members & GCA Members (GCA members must apply the promo code “GCA” at registration for member fee),  $20 for non-members.

AIA Adopts New Rules and Ethical Standards for Members

The American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Board of Directors approved several changes to the AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct to explicitly address sexual harassment, equity in the profession, and sustainability.

The Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct applies to all AIA members. The code's ethical standards are aspirational and define the tenets of ethical behavior for AIA members. The code also includes disciplinary rules, which are mandatory and enforceable. Violations of the rules may result in sanctions, including termination of membership.

“The architecture profession is at a threshold moment,” said AIA 2018 President Carl Elefante, FAIA. “The Board’s adoption of these changes provides us with another step toward ending sexual harassment in the workplace, advancing equity in our profession, and promulgating sustainable practices. I applaud the members who raised their voices to offer these improvements to the code, and the AIA delegates, Board of Directors, and National Ethics Council who acted on their concerns.”

The new rules and ethical standards resulted in part from resolutions presented and adopted by delegates at the annual meeting of the Institute in connection with the 2018 AIA Conference on Architecture. The AIA National Ethics Council, in consultation with the Board Committee on Equity and the Future of Architecture, made recommendations to the AIA Board of Directors, which it adopted. Read more.
