Thank you to everyone who came out for the 2018 Design Symposium. We had a great week filled with many amazing speakers and capped with an amazingly picturesque Design Awards Gala at the Bishop Museum.
The week started off with a gather of the AIA component leaders from all over our region. This meeting provided a great platform for the Regional Directors to share updates from the Strategic Council and other great conversations related to issues in our region. We closed the first day with a reception for our out of town guests at the Liljestrand House which was highlighted by a beautiful sunset.
The 19th Pacific Building Trade Expo was another great success and we have heard great feedback on our amazing group of presenters this year. Ed Mazria, FAIA provided a great inspiring talk during the lunch hour and Center Stage was full of activity as Honblue shared their space with AIA, HAF, UH SoA, and Chaminade University.
Angie Brooks, FAIA provided an inspiring and enlightening talk to start Thursday. The workshops gained over 200 people in attendance and included a great mix of Design professionals, people from the general public, and even two schools (Kaimuki High School and SQEEQS).
Thank you to my co-chair and AIA Honolulu President Geoff Lewis, AIA, our hardworking AIA Honolulu staff and ALL AMAZING VOLUNTEERS who helped put on this great series of events. We received many compliments from both our local members and all our out of town guests, many of which said that Honolulu really knows how to throw a great party. Mahalo, Chris Hong, AIA

AIA National Updates
AIA Trust Healthcare Update: October 2018
While there is not currently an association group plan nor customized health plan that the AIA Trust can offer to AIA members, there is some cause for optimism. At present, the continuing Affordable Care Act (ACA) still defines only two ways in which someone can purchase private insurance: through their employer or as an individual. The AIA Trust is continuing to monitor the situation in the event this changes. Read more >
