Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Monday, Jan. 21

The AIA Honolulu office will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  We will re-open for regular business on Tuesday, January 22 at 9am.

Call for Entries: 2019 KUKULU HALE AWARDS (Letter of Intent Feb. 1)

Recognizing projects and people in the state’s commercial real estate industry

2019 Kukulu Hale Awards, recognizing excellence in Hawaii’s commercial real estate industry. New projects and renovations completed for the public, private and nonprofit sectors are eligible if completed in Hawaii between January 31, 2016 and January 31, 2019. Nominations may be submitted by any person or entity affiliated with the project. 

Important 2019 Dates:
Friday, Feb. 1: Deadline to postmark Letter of Intent to enter
Friday, March 1: Entry portfolios due
Friday, May 3: Awards announced at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel

AIA Honolulu Updates

Welcome 2019 AIA Honolulu Board of Directors

AIA Honolulu would like to welcome our 2019 AIA Honolulu Officers and Board of Directors. Their term started Jan. 1, 2019 and if you would like to meet them please attend our 2019 Annual Kick-Off Party on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Serving as president is Joe Ferraro, FAIA of Ferraro Choi And Associates. Our other officers are Vice-President/President-Elect Purnima McCutcheon, AIA with Oceanwide Resort; Treasurer Sean Baumes, AIA, with WCIT Architecture and Secretary Jen Toba-Davila, AIA with Philpotts Interiors.

Congratulations Allied Member Nichoas Haigler, Allied Member with Kieselbach Woodworks for being featured in the Pacific Business News January 3 in an article titled "Woodworker carves out a niche in business." 

Wayne Kieselbach is the owner and founder of Kakaako-based Kieselbach Woodworks. The company, which specializes in the manufacturing of high-quality wood products, opened its doors in 1994.....Kieselbach arrived in Hawaii over 30 years ago to manage an ice cream plant in the Islands. Read More >

AIA Recipients for 2019 Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture

AIA is recognizing nine projects with its 2019 Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture. The 2019 Interior Architecture program celebrates the most innovative interior spaces. The five-member jury evaluates entries based on design achievement, including sense of place and purpose, ecology and environmental sustainability and history.

Register Now for Grassroots 2019 and this year's event will be held in Washington, DC March 6-8 at the Renaissance Washington DC Downtown Hotel.

Grassroots 2019 is AIA’s annual leadership and legislative event for elected chapter leaders and chapter staff. This year’s agenda emphasizes chapter and community leadership with workshops designed to help elected chapter officers become more effective chapter and civic leaders. Attendees share information, ideas, and best practices with their counterparts from around the country and are given the opportunity to provide input on AIA initiatives. There are also many networking opportunities with peers and AIA national staff.  This year’s theme is “People. Purpose. Partnerships.” Learn More.


AIA Grassroots 2019 Leadership Conference Scholarship Due Feb. 4

The Call for Applications for Scholarships for Emerging Professionals to attend the AIA Grassroots Leadership Conference in Washington DC on March 6-8 is Now Open! The scholarship is provided to Associates and Young Architect members of AIA, who have been registered less than 10 years. The scholarship covers airfare and registration expenses.  Read more >
