Join us as an attendee, sponsor and/or exhibitor at the 16th Annual Hawaii Winter Workshop – MAUI 2.0 at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa Ka’anapali on Monday, Jan. 18 & Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016.
This program is designed to improve the skills and knowledge base of design and forensics professionals (consultants, Architects and engineers), developers and contractors. The program sessions focus on design and analysis of roofing, waterproofing and exterior wall issues. The programs will run from approximately 7:30am - 4:00 pm. Louis Fung, AIA Accepts Region Position and Dan Chun, FAIA Becomes President

By accepting this position Louis has to step down as our AIA Hawaii State Council President and Dan Chun, FAIA will continue to serve his term until it ends in 2018.

Mahalo Dan for coming back to the board. Dan is an AIA Hawaii State Council veteran so we are in great hands.
Again, congratulations to Louis on his new position and we look forward to your great work with our Northwest Pacific Region and the AIA National Strategic Council.

1) Short-term, Non-profit Independent Contractor
AIA Honolulu is seeking an established consultant/independent contractor to help Chapter leadership grow needed non-dues revenue programs in support of the organization’s long-term mission and goals. The Chapter seeks an experienced professional to assist Chapter leadership in growing revenue streams in the following areas: Annual Sponsorship, Center Rentals and Allied membership. Established contacts with downtown Honolulu businesses and connections with professionals in the AEC industry is highly desirable. We are seeking someone to work a minimum of 3 hours daily (M-F) onsite to also assist with general inquiries and to oversee rentals and scheduled lunch-hour events (parking provided).

2) Seeking a motivated and ,transformative Executive Vice President
AIA Honolulu is seeking a highly motivated, transformative and energetic chief executive. This person must have an awareness and appreciation for the power of design and the role architects play in shaping the future by building better communities.
Experience in working with volunteers, especially boards of directors, committees and collaborating organizations is essential—as is a strong commitment to serve a diverse community of members, emerging professionals and member firms. Solid organizational experience and leadership expertise is required, in addition to a working knowledge of non-profit organizational development and association management.
Executive Search Process: To assist our Executive Committee and Board of Directors in selecting a qualified candidate, the Honolulu executive search firm of Inkinen & Associates has been contracted to handle the executive search on behalf of AIA Honolulu. Kathy Inkinen, President & Owner, will be our direct contact. We also have a search committee including the current Executive Committee and AIA Honolulu past presidents, John Fullmer, AIA (2003), Pip White (2012), AIA and Louis Fung, AIA (2013).

The topic is "The Road Ahead: Construction Industry Trends for 2016 and Beyond" and you will learn what will influence construction costs in 2016 and how are they trending locally and globally? - Dec 16 - 2012 IRC Transition from the 2006 IRC (Kailua-Kona)
This Kailua-Kona seminar will assist participants in implementing the transition from the 2006 IRC to the 2012 IRC. It will include relevant changes in the 2009 IRC. This interactive training will focus on the key changes presented in the participant material. Knowledge review questions will provide ample opportunity for participants to discuss and consider the changes. Time/Date 8:00am-4:00pm. Fee: $60.
- Feb. 3: Symposium on Innovative Learning Spaces
Attend the Symposium on Innovative Learning Spaces on Weds, Feb. 3, 5pm-8pm at the Iolani School, Sullivan Center. The keynote speaker is Susan Crichton, Director of the Faculty of Education at University of British Columbia Okanagan. Throughout K-12 education, “21st Century Learning” and “Design Thinking” have become frequently discussed topics. This symposium will explore the role that interior classrooms spaces and their furnishings play in these educational approaches. AIA CES credits provided by the organizers.
