Happy Holidays from AIA Honolulu

AIA Honolulu is wishing you a Happy holiday season!

At the close of another great year, AIA Honolulu pauses to extend our sincere appreciation for your confidence and loyalty.
 
In observance of the holiday season the Center for Architecture will be closed on the following days:
  • Thur. Dec. 24 - Fri. Dec 25, 2015
  • Thur. Dec. 31 - Fri. Jan. 1, 2016

Limited Hours: Due to staff transition the Center for Architecture will have limited regular opening hours in the beginning of 2016:

Opening Hours: Monday - Friday from 10am - 2pm

Remote Assistance: For remote assistance during regular business hours (8am-5pm) please email Camilla Nicholas, Hon. Affiliate or call her at (808) 628-7245.

Aloha Nui Loa Amy Blagriff, Hon. AIA

On Dec. 16 AIA Honolulu hosted an "Aloha Party" for Amy Blagriff, Hon. AIA at the M Nightclub, to celebrate the end of her 13 amazing years as our Executive Vice President. 

She is now on a much deserved vacation until the end of this year when she officially will step down as our EVP.

On Jan. 5, 2016 she starts her new position with AIA Colorado as their Director of Operations.

AIA Honolulu January Events

Jan 6 - Attend our Talk by Shim-Sutcliffe at the Center for Architecture

RSVP Online Today! On Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm AIA Honolulu is hosting a free program at the Center for Architecture.

Join our speakers Brigitte Shim, FRAIC and Howard Sutcliffe, RAIC as they share their environmentally sensitive and elegant site-specific design work.  Their Toronto-based firm is created around their shared passion for architecture, landscape and furniture which will also be featured, along with the intricate construction and fabrication of buildings, sites which they have touched. These intersections has positioned them to question fundamental relationships between object and ground, building and landscape, man and nature. 

Shim-Sutcliffe’s projects have won local, national and international recognition and awards. Their built work has been exhibited internationally and been published throughout the world.


Jan 15 - Attend AIA Honolulu RUDC Committee Meeting

RSVP Online! Attend our first Regional and Urban Design Committee (RUDC) meeting for 2016 on Friday, January 15, 12pm - 1pm at the Center for Architecture.  Meeting is open to ALL interested AIA members.

Get involved in 2016!  As this is our first meeting of the year we need you there to so we can talk about ideas and issues to follow in the new year.

The role of the AIA Honolulu RUDC Commitee is to review, discuss and advocate for positions on various urban design issues that affect our built environment and the communities we serve.

Celebrate the new year with AIA. Come alone, bring your spouse, your friend(s) and/or colleagues.

    • Jan 7 - ACECH January Membership Meeting
      On Thurs, Jan.7 ACECH will hold their General Membership Meeting. Registration starts 11:45am and lunch 12:00pm at the Honolulu Country Club. The cost is $45 for ACECH/AIA/ASCE members and $60 for non-members.  The topic is “Update on the City's NPDES MS4 Permit Program - Revisions to the City's Soil Erosion and Storm Drainage Standards". The speaker is Randall Wakumoto, P.E., Storm Water Quality, Dep. of Facility Maintenance, City and Countu of Honolulu. Register via email of this form then follow up with payment by December 30, 2015.
    • Feb. 3: Symposium on Innovative Learning Spaces
      Attend the Symposium on Innovative Learning Spaces on Weds, Feb. 3, 5pm-8pm at the Iolani School, Sullivan Center. The keynote speaker is Susan Crichton, Director of the Faculty of Education at University of British Columbia Okanagan. Throughout K-12 education, “21st Century Learning” and “Design Thinking” have become frequently discussed topics. This symposium will explore the role that interior classrooms spaces and their furnishings play in these educational approaches. AIA CES credits provided by the organizers.
