Film: I.M. PEI: Building China Modern

A documentary chronicling I.M. Pei's return to his ancestral home of Suzhou to work on a modern museum in the city's oldest neighborhood and the challenge of juxtaposing China's ancient culture and modern progress. With his recent passing, we pay tribute to Pei and his one project in Hawaii.

Panel discussion to follow film screening: William Chapman, Interim Dean, UH School of Architecture; Tonia Moy, AIA, Vice President, Fung Associates, Inc. and W.H. Raymond Yeh, FAIA, Former Dean, UH-School of Architecture

Paul joins AHL’s Bettina Mehnert, FAIA, in a lively discussion about economic trends in building and design and when firms can expect to see the long-anticipated economic downturn. Kieselbach Woodworks Featured in HI Luxury

Congratulations to our local allied member Nicholas Haigler who was just featured in a recent article in HI Luxury about Kieselbach Woodworks.

The article is called "Making the cut" and talks about their 25 years of fine woodworking craftsmanship. They are located in Kaka'ako and is comprised of a team of five who builds gates, doors, railings, staircases, and everything wood related.

We wanted remind our members that AIA Trust is an invaluable practice resource for AIA members. Some resources that they recently added include those for members starting a firm and for transitioning out; several webinars; risk management guides on topics such as cyber threats, flood insurance, and substitutions; articles about designing for sustainability such as how green design is impacting the standard of care; cyber risk assessment tools, and more!
