As reported last week, our longtime AIA Honolulu friend, David Cheever, passed away on June 23, 2016. AIA Honolulu and the Hawaii Architectural Foundation are planning to hold a "Celebration of David Cheever" event at the Center for Architecture.
Please join us Thursday, August 4 from 5-7pm as we celebrate and remember together our friend David.
Aug 11: Wine Tasting Pau Hana & Panel Discussion: Starting Your Own Firm
Register Online! Join the Young Architects Forum (YAF) Pau Hana on Thursday, August 11 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Center for Architecture. We’ll be socializing, sipping wine, and enjoying a panel discussion with local architects who took the leap and started their own firm. Bring questions for a lively discussion!

Topic: Document Review Process & Common Errors. This will be an overview of the Disability and Communication Access Board's (DCAB) document review process and the common design errors found in their document reviews.
Presenter: Mona Higa, Facility Access Coordinator from the U.S. Access Board/Disability and Communication Access Board (DCAB).

Congratulations to Architects Hawaii for being listed as one of the top 50 design firms in an article titled "ARCHITECTURE GIANTS: Innovation from 51 top design firms in" by Building Design + Construction on July 26, 2016. In the article they are showing us what design firms have done to stay ahead of the pack.
For Architects Hawaii Ltd. it notes that they created the AHL Wahine Collaborative, a forum where female employees can share “talk stories” to create a “workplace of trust for women.” Well done AHL!

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency is offering free training days in August from 8:00am-4:00pm. This training describes the sources and types of nonstructural earthquake damage and the effective methods and guidance that individuals and organizations can use to take action now before the next earthquake and minimize future injuries and property losses from nonstructural risks. Qualifies for 6 AIA CES LUs (HSW). AIA Honolulu is the registered provider.

The workshop will present the basic methods to navigate and utilize the DPP’s online Electronic Plans (ePlans) system. Instructions on how to submit electronic plans for a permit applications and how to interact with the City electronically during the plan review process will be provided. Presented by Susan Vogt, Karta Informatics. Cost: $30 for AIA members., $50 for Non-members.
