Film Title: TINY: A Story About Living Small (62 Min). This is a documentary by Merete Mueller & Christopher Smith, about home, and how we find it. The film follows the couple’s attempt to build a Tiny House from scratch, and profiles other families who have downsized their lives into houses smaller than the average parking space. Through homes stripped down to their essentials, the film raises questions about sustainability, good design, and the changing American Dream.

The panel will address emerging topics in the programming and design of justice facilities, in conjunction with the annual national conference of AIA AAJ in Honolulu November 2 – 5 at the Modern Hotel Honolulu.

Wine tasting, pizza, and pupus will enliven the evening. In addition to the sociality there will be a brief presentation on what it means to be an AIA Fellow and the process of becoming one.
Cost: $20 AIA members; $30 non-AIA members. Advanced online registration and payment is required or cash at the door.
The local committee of YAF is a part of AIA Honolulu. YAF Honolulu welcomes professionals that are: nearly licensed, newly licensed, and out to ten years of licensure.

Canstruction Update
11th Annual CANstruction® raises 22,725 lbs for the Hawaii FoodBank
Over the past 11 years 351,130 pounds of food has been raised to help feed the hungry in Hawaii – providing 276,480 meals. The “Canstructures” were on display from October 1 through October 16 at Pearlridge Center’s Uptown Center Court. All food to build the structures was donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. This year's competition raised a total of 22,725 pounds of food, which will provide food for a total of 17,893 meals to feed Hawaii’s hungry!

"Still Houseless in Honolulu - Increasing the Supply of Housing at All Price Point" At the first “Houseless in Honolulu” summit in 2015, BIA-Hawaii identified some of the challenges we face as a community with the limited supply of housing at all price points. Schools, universities, and hospitals, etc. would be challenged to recruit and retain professionals that serve our communities to live and work in Hawaii. Since then, the median price of a home on Oahu reached $760,000 in June 2016. View Event Flyer.

Nov 7-9: Hawaii SFPE Seminar Presentation - 2016 NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code
The Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers are sponsoring this three-day seminar through a special arrangement with the National Fire Protection Association. It will take place on Nov. 7-9 from 8am-5pm each day at the Hale Ikena, Fort Shafter Golf Clubhouse. The cost is $1295 per person. -
Nov 16: SEAOH Membership Meeting and 2012 IBC Adoption (Sign up by Nov. 10)
